  1. What happens after I make an appointment?

After you make an appointment through Simple Health our Counseling Center Coordinator will accept or adjust the appointment request as needed. You will be required to complete certain documents before arriving at your intake session.

  1. What is an Intake session?

An intake session is a meet and greet between the student and our Counseling Center Coordinator. The coordinator will complete an intake form and safety plan with each student. The student will be able to ask questions and explain why they are seeking counseling. Together the student and the coordinator will find the counselor that best fits each student’s personal needs. The student will choose a day and time that works best and be scheduled for a recurring appointment with their assigned counselor.

  1. How long are the sessions?

Sessions are 53 minutes in length.

  1. How often can I come to counseling?

Appointments are set up on a recurring basis. The number of sessions provided will be based on student’s clinical needs.

  1. Can I choose my clinician?

This is something you can discuss with the Counseling Center Coordinator in your Intake Session. The coordinator will consider your request. However, the ultimate deciding factor will be scheduling you with the counselor who works best with your schedule. Remember all our counselors have been well educated, trained, and are under the supervision of Dr. Susanne Thurber, LPC CPCS. GA LPC#009152. However, we understand that not all counselors are the best fit for each individual client.

  1. Can I change clinicians?

Make an appointment with the Counseling Center Coordinator if you believe your counselor is not the best fit for your needs. We want our clients to feel safe and heard when they enter a counseling session. We understand that different clients need different counselors. We will do our best to schedule you with a different counselor or refer you to a new provider depending on your schedule and availability.

  1. How do I know if I need counseling?

Here at the Truett McConnell Counseling Center we believe that counseling is important for everyone to experience true healing and growth. We provide counseling services for anxiety, depression, anger management, relationship struggles, school related issues, and career guidance. However, our counselors are also available if you want someone to talk to weekly to better yourself, your mind, or your mental health.

  1. Are the counseling sessions confidential?

YES! It is our main priority to help our clients feel safe and secure while attending counseling services at our center. We have installed sound machines inside and outside of the counseling rooms and offices. All our staff have signed confidentiality agreements. This means counseling staff are not allowed to discuss client information, session content, or other client-related information outside the counseling center. Confidentiality is especially important to us at Truett McConnell University. We are doing everything in our power to hold ourselves to the highest of ethics at our counseling center to ensure confidentiality in all our sessions.
