Bachelor of Science in Education

The Bachelor of Science in Education degree leads to certification in Elementary Education, Middle Grades Education, or Music Education.

Each program meets national and state standards for the preparation of elementary, middle grades, and music teachers. Students in each of these program should expect to spend a significant amount of time in actual classrooms. Admission to this program at the junior level is a separate process from admission to the college and requires a 2.75 GPA, along with passing of the GACE Program Admission Test (or exemption through SAT or ACT scores),and passing of the Educator Ethics Assessment.

As an education major at Truett McConnell, you will find that the faculty members place a high priority on your calling. Faculty members recognize that only those who are called into the teaching profession will be truly successful teachers. Once you enter the Teacher Education Program (in the beginning of the junior year), you will spend over 1,000 hours in local classrooms. You will learn how to be a professional who understands what children need to learn and the most effective techniques for teaching the required knowledge. You will also grow in your walk with Christ as you wrestle with how to be salt and light in your future classroom, even though the Bible may not be a part of the curriculum.
