Kirsten West, a 2018 Truett McConnell University (TMU) graduate, was recently accepted into the Doctor of Physical Therapy (PT) program at Augusta University.

West, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree, will begin the doctoral program in early May where she will participate in a wide variety of physical therapy training opportunities. After completing the three-year program, West says she plans on going into orthopedics.

“I would like to go into orthopedic physical therapy and work in an outpatient setting,” she said. “I want to see and treat a wide age range of patients and I believe outpatient best provides that opportunity.”

Currently, the TMU alum works as a PT tech assistant for other physical therapists at a private, outpatient clinic. “I see patients of all ages come through the door, and I really enjoy that dynamic,” said West.

West says that this experience in the field has been beneficial in her decision to advance in the physical therapy field.

Foundation at TMU

West is grateful for the time she attended Truett McConnell University and is excited to build on the knowledge she learned from her undergraduate classes. “The conferences I attended with the TMU biology department have better prepared me to interact with other professionals as I enter the physical therapy field.”

“I also believe that my entire experience at TMU, from my time in the classroom to my time spent with friends, will help me to better relate to my future patients.”

The future physical therapist is looking forward to her new career after graduating the doctoral program. Most importantly, she is excited to incorporate her biblical worldview into her career.

“I am so grateful to have attended a school where I was encouraged to show the love of Jesus in every aspect of my life, professional or otherwise,” West said.
