CLEVELAND, Ga. (TMCNews)–Truett McConnell College’s 17th Annual Golf Tournament registered nine new foursomes and raised about $34,000.

“The 25 percent growth in revenue from the tournament means we are that much closer to helping our students join the eight international mission trips Truett-McConnell will sponsor this academic year to places like India, North Africa and inner-city Pittsburgh,” said Dr. Stacy Hall, tourney organizer.

“Our 58 tournament sponsors — the most we’ve ever had — are the reason for the record-setting success of the tournament,” Hall said. “We couldn’t be more grateful to them for their support of the tournament and their participation in it. They have helped us reach the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ, and supported student scholarships and other campus needs.”

Held at Innsbruck Country Club in Helen Ga., the Oct. 19 event drew about 100 golfers “who enjoyed beautiful fall weather and a course well prepared,” said Hall, a business professor at TMC.

“We are very encouraged by the outpouring of community support both from our Truett-McConnell community and the Cleveland community at large,” Hall added. “All indications are that we could very well have two flights of golfers at next year’s tournament.”

The team sponsored by Turner, Wood & Smith Insurance took first place outright with a net score of 49. Team members included Trey Wood, Dustin Wellborn, Zane Stewart and Marshall Nichols.

The team sponsored by Omega Technology Group settled a four-way tie for second place when Will Lewallen drove closest to the pin from an interesting perch: the deck on the back of the Innsbruck Clubhouse. Other team members included Bruce Colemen, Chip Brooks and Greg Burrell.

Third place belonged to Gary Floyd, Nathan Bartlett, Jonathan Bozeman and Flint McCullough.
