Most people get the Monday blues, but Monday nights at TMU are special to me! Each Monday night, Bible studies are held across campus – some in dorms and some (on pretty nights, at least) are held outside! Students don’t necessarily have to choose the small group happening in their dorm, but they are encouraged to join in on one of the Monday night groups.

I’m currently a Resident Assistant (RA) in Merritt, and two of Merritt’s other RAs are leading the Bible study this semester. It has been so much fun to gather with other girls in my dorm to study God’s Word together!

All of the Bible studies on campus are currently going through the book of James, which is my favorite! There is such beauty in James – one of my Bibles has an introductory note that says “The book of James is like any other book in the New Testament. While it reads like a letter, it often adopts the stark style of Proverbs, the rhetorical strength of an Old Testament prophet, and the structure of a sermon.”[1]

That description made me look at James in a whole new light! I did a deep study through the book for the first time during the summer of 2022, and since then, it has been a favorite place to turn for wisdom and guidance.

As we go through James, we are tackling half a chapter per week. Tonight, we are studying James 2, discussing faith without works. The topic can be touchy! We know that our salvation is not tied to or dependent upon our own works, but that it was bought by Christ! But should our faith and hope not be seen through our actions? Absolutely not! We show that our faith is living through our actions, and it is a gift to be able to reflect the joy of the Lord in our lives to others.

I’m excited to see how God works in and through the girls in our small group and its leaders as we go through James during the rest of the semester!
