Truett McConnell University’s Leonhard Schiemer School of Psychology and Biblical Counseling announces the addition of a Certificate of Biblical Counseling to begin in January.

Anyone desiring to learn basic proficiency in the area of biblical counseling, but not seeking a career in counseling, will benefit from this certificate. Some of the course subjects will include: addictions, marriage and family, and trauma and transformative psychology.

Having been in ministry now for over thirty years, I am extremely enthusiastic about this new certificate,” said Dr. Brad Reynolds, TMU Vice President for Academic Services. “There seems to be an imbalance, at times, in Christian circles, when it comes to biblical counseling. On the one hand, there are those who see no need for counseling techniques within the world of pain inside the church. On the other hand, there are those who errantly place more authority in counseling techniques than on Scripture.

“Ministers are often the first person someone goes to for counsel or guidance, and yet many have not had counseling training,” said Dr. Natalie Ford, Assistant Professor of Behavioral Science.

“The Certificate in Biblical Counseling offers courses designed to teach basic counseling skills to those who aren’t seeking a career in counseling but are in positions where they are often called to counsel others,” added Ford.

Clergy, teachers, business professionals, human resource officers, school administration, and other related professionals are encouraged to learn more about the Biblical Counseling Certificate.

Required courses for this certificate will be offered partially online and on campus one day each week. The program is designed to be flexible enough to accommodate the schedule of working students, as well as those with family responsibilities.

“Our School of Psychology and Biblical Counseling has beautifully balanced the sufficiency and authority of Scripture with the need for training in counseling,” said Vice President Reynolds.

TMU is currently accepting applicants for the Master of Arts in Professional Counseling degree as well as the Biblical Counseling Certificate to begin in January 2019. Prospective students can view the course requirements and apply online at truett.edu/degrees.
