Cleveland, GA – Four TMU education students were honored at the state capitol building on February 18, 2025, for their efforts in helping to produce the brand-new “Teach in the Peach” website. Teach in the Peach is a teacher recruitment and retention website aimed at helping current and prospective teachers find jobs and benefits for starting and staying in the field of education.
The site, which was live as of February 18, is designed to simplify the pathway to becoming a teacher and is part of the Georgia Department of Education’s (GaDOE) goal to make Georgia the “#1 State for Teachers to Teach.” The site is a useful tool for current students on the job market and allows teachers across the state to look for other opportunities in education.
Senior education majors Grace Hendrix (elementary education), Kaileigh McFarland (middle grade education), Davis Richardson (middle grade education), and EJ Smith (elementary education) partnered with Ms. Christy Todd from the GaDOE to help with ideas for recruiting students to the education field. All four students are full-time student teaching and are applying and interviewing for jobs next school year!
“I am very proud of our students for helping with this initiative and taking the time out of their busy schedules,” stated Taylor Gilleland, chair of the Walpot School of Education.
