Cleveland, GA – On Thursday, February 13, the Hans Hut School of Business at Truett McConnell University (TMU) hosted a Financial Industry Seminar, featuring distinguished panelists Jack Keener, President of United Community for North Georgia, and Brian Horton, Senior Vice President and Commercial Banking Officer at Ameris Bank.

The seminar provided students with valuable insights into the financial industry through an engaging panel discussion. Topics ranged from the realities of a typical workday and essential skills for entering the field, to the evolution of the industry over the past decade and emerging trends shaping its future.

When asked how to determine the best fit within the financial sector, Mr. Keener emphasized the importance of networking and exploration: “Talk to people in the industries where you have any inkling of interest. Talk to people, talk to your family…people love to talk about what they do. Don’t panic because you don’t have all the answers.”

Mr. Horton encouraged openness to new opportunities: “Be open to new experiences. As human beings, we resist change or things we think we aren’t going to like until we try them.”

Dr. Kimberly Maiocco, Dean of the College of Professional Studies, expressed her appreciation for the panelists’ contributions: “I am very grateful when industry professionals take time to invest in the next generation and appreciate the time and expertise Mr. Keener and Mr. Horton brought to our students. The financial industry is a diverse and dynamic field that requires not only technical expertise but also a strong ethical foundation. Integrity and accountability are essential in fostering trust in financial systems. At TMU, we are committed to equipping students to approach finance with a biblical worldview, and the information shared during this seminar will serve as a valuable resource for their futures.”
