Fred Luter opens Spiritual Emphasis Week

CLEVELAND, Ga. (TMCNews)—Fred Luter, pastor of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, New Orleans, and 1st vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention, preached Sept. 6 the first of three sermons for Truett-McConnell College’s (TMC) Spiritual Emphasis Week, Sept. 6 – 8.
TMC President Emir Caner introduced Luter, calling him “a man of God who has humbly walked with the Lord for years and years.”
Expounding from Psalm 119, Luter said that believers need the Word of God in their hand, head and heart to be victorious. “The Christian life is not easy,” he said. “From the day you make a commitment to God, the enemy begins to attack you.”
Luter drew also from Ephesians 6, where the Bible is characterized as a sword, and noted that in one’s hand is where a sword is most effective.
“The devil knows that if he can get your mind to think it, he can get your body to do it,” Luter said, referring to verses 15 and 16 of the Psalm, and noting the importance of having God’s Word in one’s head.
Luter outlined verse 11 of the Psalm, affirming that believers must have God’s Word in their hearts.
“The Word of God is important so you can think right, talk right, and walk right,” Luter said.
