On Friday, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced their 2021 All-Region Awards and four members of the No. 23 Truett McConnell University softball team (32-16, 21-5) were listed.
Earning All-Region First Team honors was redshirt junior Alicia Price, redshirt sophomore Briley Lawson and redshirt freshman Mattie Brooks. Three-time Appalachian Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year, Karley Hobbs, was named to the All-Region Second Team. Lawson and Hobbs were both named to the All-Region First Team following the 2019 season.
Price, an All-AAC Second Team select, finished the regular season with an overall conference batting average of .358 and slugging percentage of .396 with 19 hits, seven RBIs, two doubles and 14 runs. After the conference tournament and NAIA opening round, the third baseman finished with an overall batting average of .396 and fielding percentage of .968.
Lawson, a two-time All-AAC First Team member, finished the AAC regular season with a batting average of .393 (.405 overall) and a slugging percentage of .607, including 33 hits, 26 RBIs, four home runs, two doubles and 13 runs. The catcher, and sometimes first baseman, finished the year with an overall fielding percentage of .988.
Fellow AAC first team member, Brooks, finished the AAC regular season with batting average of .482 (.423 overall) and slugging percentage of .663. The second baseman completed the year with an overall batting average of .417 with 65 hits, 33 RBIs, 11 doubles, three triples, two homeruns and 37 runs, which leads the Lady Bear offense, and a fielding percentage of .966.
Hobbs finished the regular season with an overall record of 17-5 (13-2 AAC) and led the AAC with an earned run average of 1.05. The redshirt junior also held her opponents to a batting average of .196, which ranked second in the AAC. Hobbs also completed the year with 109 strikeouts and collect two more wins through the postseason (19 total).
