Cleveland, GA (February 17, 2011) – Truett-McConnell College’s faculty continues the legacy of music education that spans four generations including—Dr. Mike Simoneaux, Dr. Becky Lombard, Dr. Ben Caston, and the students under Caston’s tutelage. The years were 1968-69 when Simoneaux taught Lombard at West Jefferson High School in New Orleans. The two professors met again in the mid 1970s at Oak Park Baptist Church in New Orleans. Over the years, their paths would cross as Lombard joined the faculty at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (NOBTS) and Simoneaux moved to Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBAU), Florida. “I have been inspired by how the Lord has used Dr. Lombard in a variety of church music leadership positions,” Simoneaux reflected. While Simoneaux was serving at PBAU, he met Caston, who was traveling with the Seminarians, a men’s choral ensemble, in 1998. Over the next few years, the two would reconnect every summer at the Baptist Church Music Conference. Now, Simoneaux is a member of Caston’s church choir at Helen First Baptist, and the two also sing in Sons of Jubal, a men’s chorus of ministers of music from Georgia Baptist churches.
