Cleveland, GA (April 6, 2011)- John Thomas Justus and Allison Fortner were selected to participate in the 46th annual Washington Youth Tour sponsored by Habersham EMC and electric cooperatives around the nation. Justus is the son of TMC professors Michael and Janis Justus, and Fortner is the niece of TMC staff member Melissa Fortner and the daughter of Lewis and Betty Fortner of Cleveland.
Justus is a homeschooled high school junior and a TMC Accel student. At the end of this term, Justus will have earned 12 semester hours of credit from Truett-McConnell College. Fortner attends White County High School. Justus and Fortner were selected through a contest held at Habersham EMC. The two students will be among 100 high school juniors attending the weeklong leadership event in June.
Once a year, electric cooperatives in Georgia choose high school students to represent the state as delegates on the Washington Youth Tour. During the trip, students will meet with national and state representatives and visit all the major sights such as the Smithsonian Museums, Supreme Court, Washington Monument and the Holocaust Museum. The students join over 1,400 other students from around the nation in this all-expense-paid trip for one week in our nation’s capital. For more details, contact your local EMC.
