Cleveland, GA – On April 15, 2025, the junior cohort of fourteen students in the Peter and Gredel Walpot School of Education were pinned as they pledged to do their duty and honor God as the prepare for and pursue their calling to education.
After a welcome by Mrs. Taylor Gilleland, Chair of the Walpot School of Education, an invocation by Dr. Mael Disseau, and a music ensemble made of music education majors, Mrs. Katie Harris, an alumna of TMU’s Master of Education, was the keynote speaker, encouraging the incoming cohort with the words of a seasoned educator.
The students recited the educator’s pledge, dedicating themselves to the cultivation of character, to compassion, honesty and trust. Following the pinning, Ms. Macie Jarrad, a graduating senior of the education program, delivered closing remarks and reminded them of their calling to be educators and to show the love of Christ.
Karley Hamby, one of the students pinned that night, expressed gratitude for the program and excitement for the road ahead.
“I am extremely blessed to be a part of the TMU education program. I truly believe our education program prepares each of us to go into the teaching field with a love for students, learning, teaching, and Christ!” she said, “The pinning ceremony marks the beginning of each of these students teaching career where they learn how to educate kids all while being a shining light for the Lord.”
“Pinning our incoming junior cohort is always a blessing. This is the beginning of their journey in education, and we could not be more excited for them or proud for them,” stated Mrs. Gilleland, “We always look forward to how the Lord is going to use them in their mission field. We love inviting their loved ones and friends to join us for this momentous occasion.”
