Dr. Emir F. Caner, president of Truett-McConnell College, has announced that the Creation Research Center has been established at the college. The center director, who is also a faculty member, is Dr. Kurt Wise, who will serve as a professor of natural sciences.

The center will build a community of scholars dedicated to providing a conservative Christian voice within the field of science. Through research, conferences, and academics, the center aspires to reverse the great divorce between science and theology by incorporating science within a Christian worldview.

A native of Illinois, Dr. Wise received both Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in paleontology from Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. At Harvard, he studied under the direction of renowned scientist Stephen Jay Gould.

Dr. Wise comes to Truett-McConnell from a position as Professor of Science and Theology at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, where he also served as director of the Center for Science and Theology since 2006. His previous college teaching experience encompasses 17 years on the faculty of Bryan College in Tennessee.

His areas of teaching experience have included geology, paleontology, biosytematics, biology, philosophy and ethics in science, biological and physical origins, Christian doctrine and the natural sciences.

Dr. Wise is one of the most renowned young-earth creationists in the field today. More than a dozen publications in the fields of science and theology have included Dr. Wise’s research. He has made four television appearances and three published videos. He is the author or co-author of dozens of articles in science and theology publications.

In 1983 and again in 1984 he was awarded the Certificate of Distinction in Teaching by the Harvard-Danforth Center for Teaching and Learning of Harvard University.

Dr. Wise and his wife, Marie, are the parents of two adult daughters. The Wises will make their home in Cleveland.

Commented Dr. Caner about Dr. Wise’s appointment: “Dr. Wise embodies the powerful balance of an astute scientific mind within a distinctively Christian worldview. He brings an absolute dedication to the beauty and research of the scientific field while holding to the full integrity and sufficiency of the Word of God. Even though Dr. Wise brings the highest academic credentials to our institution as well as a wealth of experience, his greatest asset is his love for the Lord Jesus Christ and his desire to make His name known to the nations. Make no mistake about it, the appointment of Dr. Wise will allow Truett-McConnell College to surge forward in once again marrying the fields of science and theology.”
