Atlanta, GA – TMU’s School of Communication spent Dead Day at the state Capitol with Mike Griffin for the 5th Christmas Prayer Tour. Ten students, as well as Dr. Barry McCarty and Mr. Sam Thomas came alongside twenty other Georgia Baptists for the tour.
The tour featured stops at many important places throughout the building and concluded with a brief meeting with Gov. Brian Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp. Attendees were able to take in the splendor of the Capitol at Christmas while praying for wisdom and discernment in the decisions made by those in the House and Senate chambers, in legislature, and in the governor’s office.
“Given that public service and public advocacy are two of the applied fields that we are preparing our School of Communication students for at Truett McConnell University, we were grateful that our Georgia Baptist lobbyist Mike Griffin offered this Capital Prayer Tour,” said Dr. McCarty, Chair of the Hans Denck School of Communication, “Our students were able to meet, learn about, and pray for the people who lead our state government, and to see the places where they work. It was capstone for their studies this semester. Thank you, Georgia Baptists, for representing the interest of believers in legislative affairs and for investing in our convention’s university students.”
TMU’s Communication students have been involved in courses in public advocacy and communication careers this semester. The tour crowned their studies as they took more of a look into how they can be more involved in government, now and in the days to come.
