Cleveland, GA(March 28, 2011) – Truett-McConnell College Art Department and the Yonah Art Guild sponsored a Cherokee Presentation on March 22, 2011 in the Bear Cave of the Nix Building.
Roughly 45 White County locals and students attended to learn local legends about the Cherokee, Nacoochee, Yonah, and Sautee. The Cherokee Indians played an important role in White County history. White County had one of the largest American Indian settlements in North Georgia prior to colonial settlement.
The speakers displayed Indian artifacts and accessories as well as hosted demonstrations, talks, and myths about the local Native American heritage. Speakers included Gracie Shwartzman, Mary Geidel, and Jill Hazen from the Sautee-Nacoochee History Museum, and music by Women of Heart.
