1st Annual Online Debate Tournament

  • This event has passed.

Apr 20, 2020 - May 5, 2020

President and Hannah Caner - hero tshirtWelcome to the first ever Truett McConnell University online debate tournament!

While many of you are completing classes online, your extracurricular activities have probably diminished. What should be a Spring of visiting colleges and engaging in activities that could earn scholarships has become a season of sheltering in place. We have decided to have a little fun, give away some TMU swag, and offer a chance to audition for scholarships through an online debate tournament!

How do I enter?

Create a five minute video of your debate using your cell phone, and submit the video to communications@truett.edu by midnight on May 5, 2020. You may submit the video as an attachment; however, if the file is too large to email, upload it to Google drive, Dropbox, or iCloud, and send then email the link. Also, be sure to include your name, class in high school (freshman, senior, etc.), and phone number so we can contact the winner. The tournament is open to anyone interested.

It’s that simple!

We will review each video and select a winner. If your video is chosen, we may share it on social media, and you may qualify for a scholarship to join the debate team at TMU in the Fall.

What are the resolution options?

  1. [Insert hero here] is the greatest superhero. In this resolution, you need to pick your favorite hero and argue why they are the greatest.
  2. This house should take action to combat COVID-19.
In this resolution, you will define this house (it could be the United States Federal Government, your state or local government, or even Truett McConnell University) and argue for a specific plan/action.
