Dr. David Drake was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas but calls Ellijay, Georgia home. He and his wife, Marilyn, have two grown sons and three grandchildren.
Dr. Drake is a graduate from the Criswell College in Dallas, Texas (1978), Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas (1981), and Luther Rice Seminary in Atlanta, Ga. (1989) and has been involved in vocation ministry for over 30 years in pastoral and staff positions in Texas, Florida and Georgia. He came to TMU from the First Baptist Church in Ellijay, Georgia, where he and his wife continue to live.
In July of 2015, Dr. Drake was invited by President Caner to come on the staff as Director of Church Relations. This responsibility has Dr. Drake traveling statewide to mentor and build relationships with pastors, churches, and Baptist Associations. Dr. Caner has described this role as an encourager … a Barnabas.
Since coming to TMU, Dr. Drake has traveled hundreds of miles and attended and participated in dozens of meetings, conferences, and gatherings with pastors and ministry leaders to pray for and encourage those in vocational ministry.
The goal as Director of Church Relations is to encourage and build relationships with Georgia Baptist Churches, Pastors, and Associations through personal and group encounters.
