CLEVELAND, Ga. (TMCNews)—Truett-McConnell College hosted White County's 14th-annual Clergy Appreciation Prayer Breakfast, Oct. 3, with almost 100 attending.
Truett-McConnell's sports marketing professor, Dr. Stacy Hall -- who is White County Chamber of Commerce Chair-elect -- offered opening remarks and introduced the keynoter, Evangellusionist Jim Chester.
Chester is a member of the Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists who uses slight-of-hand illusions as a tool to communicate the gospel of Jesus Christ.Evangellusionist Jim Chester (left) put thumb cuffs on TMC's Dr. Stacy Hall and asked, "How does it feel to be trapped and have no escape?" Chester used the illustration to note the way sins entraps people, and said the only escape is through salvation in Jesus Christ. (Photo / Norm Miller)
An award-winning illusionist and comedian, Chester used a disappearing and reappearing handkerchief, a rope, and a set of thumb cuffs as illustrative of several key points regarding Christian doctrines related to salvation in Jesus Christ.
White County Chamber of Commerce President Melissa Leitzsey told TMCNews: "The Clergy Appreciation Breakfast is vital in recognizing our clergy who give so much to us on a daily basis.
"The Chamber wants to recognize these wonderful members of our community as they give so much of their time and efforts to make White County a better place to live, work, and play," she said. "A great community is built on strong beliefs and morals; our clergy instill these into our community members to make them better citizens and the county a stronger community."
Hall told TMCNews: "As a member of the White County business community, Truett-McConnell College was honored to host such a wonderful event. Our county is comprised of a diverse group of people from several Christian denominations. The prayer breakfast allows community leaders from those denominations to gather and celebrate our common thread, the saving gospel of Jesus Christ."
